Dr. Sojung Lee, Piano Faculty

Dr. Sojung Lee is a dynamic and versatile pianist from South Korea who has built a multifaceted career as a soloist, chamber musician, collaborative pianist, and educator. She has performed at venues such as Carnegie Hall, Steinway Hall, and the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, while also engaging deeply with her local community through performances in churches, libraries, and senior centers.

She earned her Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) in Piano Performance from Rutgers University under Daniel Epstein, her M.A. in Piano Performance from the Mason Gross School of the Arts under Min Kwon, and her B.M. from Chung-Ang University as a scholarship student, studying under Okbin Lim, Hyekyung Lee, and Chiho Cho.

Her musical growth has been shaped through collaborations and festivals such as the Yong-Pyung Music Festival and the Center for Musical Excellence, where she worked with John O’Conor and Jerome Lowenthal. She received the Grand Prize at the Korean Christian Association Piano Competition and was a winner of the Chamber Music Honors Competition at Rutgers. She has performed in commemorative projects for Mendelssohn and Debussy at Rutgers and in Mendelssohn’s bicentennial celebration at NYU, as well as in the New York premiere of works by five contemporary Georgian composers.

Dr. Lee is an active member of Trio Fontēs, regularly performing a diverse chamber repertoire in concert series and community settings. She has also collaborated with the Harlem Quartet, the Adelphi Chamber Ensemble, and performed with the Philomusica Concert Choir, the Adelphi Orchestra, and the Hub City Opera and Dance Company.

She is currently an active member of the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) and the Music Educators Association of New Jersey (MEANJ). As a committed educator, Dr. Lee brings both deep pedagogical training and a compassionate teaching style, helping students grow as confident, expressive musicians. She continually integrates technology into her teaching to stay current in the evolving field of music education, enhancing both in-person and online learning experiences.
