Mr. Iouri (Yuri) Grichetchkine, Piano Faculty
Mr. Iouri Grichetchkine is a choral conductor, pianist, organist and composer. He was born in St. Petersburg, Russia, and graduated with honors from Kapella Choral College and St. Petersburg State Conservatory, having obtained diplomas in choral conducting and piano teaching. During this time he was a winner of piano competitions of Etudes (1 prize) and piano works of Soviet Composers (2 prize) in Kapella Choral College.
From 1988 to 2000, Iouri toured as Choirmaster for Eterna Muziko Choral Ensemble, performing over five hundred concerts in Russia, Europe and the United States. He has played his piano works at the 2013 Shalshelet International Festival in Miami, FL and played his compositions as part of the “Aurora” Trio in the International Music Festival in Amsterdam. The NET cable channel created an episode about Iouri’s work as a church musician and composer. In 2015 one of Iouri’s liturgical songs was presented at the National Pastoral Musicians (NPM) convention Composer’s Forum in Michigan.
He has recorded five CD’s and he is a published composer with Lorenz Corporation. Together with trumpeter David Glukh, Iouri founded “David and Iouri Duo” performing arrangements of classical, jazz, klezmer music as well as original compositions.
Mr. Grichetchkine previously taught at Benedictine Academy in Elizabeth NJ, and St. Catherine of Bologna Catholic School in Ringwood, NJ.
Mr. Grichetchkine is Music Director of St. Anastasia Church in Teaneck, NJ, Music Director of Temple Beth-Am in Morris Plains, NJ and accompanist at the Juilliard School in NYC.
